I just got back from one of those day trips I do where I go off and spend a day abroad. This time I went and spent 1 day in Luxembourg, and I am excited to write about all the things I did in Luxembourg in one day. Because, surprisingly, there is so many cute, cost-effective activities in Luxembourg that you can do, and it is so easy to navigate if you just follow the guide I’m about to provide you. If you have come from my Instagram or TikTok, stick around and subscribe to the blog. I promise you that you will not regret it.

Worth noting that this was my second time coming to Luxembourg I was there last year (I have added the link post below). And this time I did just 1 day in Luxembourg and went in the summer and…. (drum roll please).

I went again with my brand spanking new travel company Ayoviama.com and it was just a perfect day all around.

Because the flight time is so short and the airport sits right on the edge of the city, 1 day in Luxembourg genuinely works as one of those perfect day trips from the UK. Now there is biometric, which you will see when you land, but it’s super quick, and you don’t lose half a day from doing all the transfers the way you would with other European capitals. So to get straight to the point (which is something I am very much known for) if you have been considering travelling from London to Luxembourg, here is your 1 day in Luxembourg itinerary.

Do read An Autumn Escape to Luxembourg: A 48 Hour Quick Guide if you would like to stay longer in Luxembourg.

About Luxembourg

Luxembourg is officially known as the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. This landlocked country in Western Europe is bordered by Belgium to the west and north, Germany to the east, and France to the south. This is a very easy country to visit if you are going to Luxembourg.

Travelling From UK To Luxembourg

There is a lot of detail in me travelling from UK to Luxembourg in my recent Autumn Escape to Luxembourg: A 48 Hour Quick Guide so worth reviewing all the detail there. Travelling from the UK to Luxembourg (preferably London) is easier than most people think, for the 1 day in Luxembourg trip, I got to the airport at around 5 am and flew out on a 6:35 am departure, for just £35 return with Ryanair. Despite the flight leaving slightly a little late I landed at 8:50 am, and from there was able to get free public transport throughout the day. The first mode of transport was the Tram T1 straight into the city centre.

Activities In Luxembourg

There are so many activities in Luxembourg that can be done in one day. Here is everything I did:

Quick Overview:

  1. Take the T1 into the city and have breakfast at Lloyd Coffee Eatery, and then walk 4 mins to CINNAMOOD for some cinnamon rolls.
  2. Walk 10 mins to Notre-Dame Cathedral from CINNAMOOD.
  3. Chem. de la Corniche, for skyline views and to just take in the view of the city.
  4. Get a free panoramic elevator (Ascenseur Pfaffenthal) down to Grund (might need bus for this)
  5. Go and have some cake and purchase some chocolate spoons at Chocolate House Nathalie Bonn
  6. Head to Grand Café for baby back ribs and some fries before you head back to the airport via the T1.

Below is a more detailed 1 Day in Luxembourg itinerary:

First stop: One you think you must always do on all your day trips is eat! We started out at Lloyd Coffee Eatery, a very viral famous spot in Luxembourg. Here I went for the savoury panackakes with bacon, eggs and sweet pancakes (around €19.20). And then it was a four-minute walk from there to get to CINNAMOOD for some cinnamon rolls. I believe they were about €6 and they have a range of flavours. I didn’t get one, but I believe my guest got lemon-curd cinnamon rolls which looked pretty good.

Second stop: You can then head over to the Notre-Dame Cathedral, which is about a ten-minute walk from CINNAMOOD and can be explored for free. You will want to light a candle, which you can contribute some coins to. You can then walk from the Cathedral to the Nation Square for the flower garden and flags of Luxembourg.

Third Stop: Then you have to head to the Corniche for the best skyline views in the city. I came here when I was in Luxembourg last year, and though the view was splendid, it was just as beautiful in the summer too.

4. Fourth Stop: You will then take the free panoramic elevator (Ascenseur Pfaffenthal) down to Grund. You can get the bus for this, which again is free! It’s not the easiest to find, so let me know if you’d like a separate guide on locating it. Once you are on it, you will see that it is totally worth it and has such an underrated view that it’s worth the detour.

5. Fifth Stop: After lunch, stop by Chocolate House Nathalie Bonn for a sweet treat; there are chocolate spoons, and then take in Place d’Armes and Grand Rue for the classic Luxembourg City feel, which is just opposite the cafe.

6. Sixth Stop: To end the day, head to Grand Café for baby back short ribs, chips and a lemon sorbet to clean the palate finish (around €32).

7. Seventh Stop: After dinner, it is back to the airport via the Tram T1 by 9 pm, and depart at 10:30 pm.

A full day of activities in Luxembourg, done right in just 1 day in Luxembourg! I think this is quite a lot for Luxembourg in one day. If you are looking for other places to eat, then you can read – Food in Luxembourg to eat.

Is Luxembourg Safe?

I spoke about this in my autumn guide in Luxembourg, where I did a night overstay. But yes, if you are asking is Luxembourg safe then the answer is yes. Luxembourg as a country is consistently ranked as one of the most safest countries in Europe to visit, and walking between all of these spots with a group or even solo felt completely comfortable, day and at night. Of course, standard city-trip precautions apply (watch your bag on public transport, even if it is free, stay aware in busy tourist spots like Place d’Armes), but there’s nothing about Luxembourg that should put you off I would say it’s the perfect day trip if you are trying to keep costs down.

How Much Does 1 Day in Luxembourg Cost?

  • Flight: £35 return via Ryanair – If you have a cancelled flight (because it is Ryanair then read: Cancelled Ryanair Flight? Here’s Exactly What to Do)
  • Breakfast: €19.20
  • Dinner: €32
  • Activities in Luxembourg: Notre-Dame Cathedral, the Corniche, the panoramic elevator, Grund, Place d’Armes and Grand Rue all were free and so was the transport, so we more or less just paid for food and drink.
