Introduction

If you are considering to travel to Luxembourg and busy planning you will want to know what to eat in Luxembourg.

I went to Luxembourg last year and then returned again with Ayoviama and actually loved it. Its one of the smallest countries in Europe and for less than £30 I wanted to go and see what the food scene was like. For me I am always on a quest to find the best foods around the world so here is a list of all the best food I ate in Luxembourg.

The food in Luxembourg is one not to be missed, it is food that feeds the soul especially in these miserable weather conditions.

What to Eat in Luxembourg?

Luxembourgish cuisine is for those that love hearty and deeply comforting foods. You know the kind of food that makes you get all the feels and makes you feel super comfy when you have miserable weather conditions. That for me is what the cuisine reminds me off. It includes rich stews, fried dough, slow-cooked meats, sausages, and sauces that make you want to order a second plate before you’ve finished the first.

Luxembourg is also home to many Michelin-starred restaurants per capita more than France, which was a surprise to me. So the range of what to eat in Luxembourg truly is wide. You can have food from the street and then even go to fine dining all in one trip. It is genuinely impressive for a country you can drive across in under two hours.

The Best Food I Ate in Luxembourg

Now I have given you my own breaking views on the Luxembourgish cuisine you can find a list of actual dishes that you can eat and where to eat in Luxembourg City.

Kniddelen (Luxembourgish Dumplings)

This is Luxembourg’s ultimate comfort food. Kniddelen are basically thick, soft dumplings typically served with bacon and a creamy sauce, or sometimes with smoked ham. They are filling, warming, and exactly what you want after a day of walking around the city when it is cold.

Gromperekichelcher (Potato Fritters)

If you are really looking for what to eat in Luxembourg then you will certainly want these potato fritters. These are crispy potato pancakes with a slight spice (a very slight). They are fried until golden, and absolutely impossible to eat just one of. These are often sold as street food and they are very moorish.

Luxembourg Sausage with Mustard Sauce

A proper old-school Luxembourg classical dish. The local sausages are smoky and well-seasoned which I won’t lie to you surprised me, and it was covered with mustard sauce and some mash. It gave a slight sharpness that cut through perfectly and I am not always a mustard fan.

Rieslings Paschtéit

A Luxembourgish meat pie with white jelly, and is considered the queen of pies. This was eaten after a long day of work to keep people warm. You can have this cold and pair it with wine.

I was able to try all these dishes on a classical MBV style food tour (as I always doo lol). There was other dishes like Luxembourg chocolate, quiches and more. If you would like to do the same tour then you can book the same one here.
