Introduction
What are the top things to do in Casablanca? A question I’m frequently asked. Casablanca is now a city I can call home forever. Living here has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. The city has taught me so much about myself, and I will always hold a special place in my heart. The local Moroccans love me for who I am, to the hospitality in Morocco is truly a gem.
If you didn’t already know, I’ve been based in Morocco for some time, and Casablanca has truly grown on me. It’s a modern, buzzing city with so much to offer from its gorgeous beaches and vibrant food scenes to the iconic mosque, Hassan II Mosque, that towers over the ocean.
Fun fact: The Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca, took seven years to build. The construction was completed on August 30 in 1993 and needed approximately 10,000 artisans and craftsmen to complete.
In this post, I’m sharing my love for Casablanca and giving you the top things to do in Casablanca. For someone that’s lived here, I think I have gathered a really good list for you.

1. Visit the Hassan II Mosque
You simply can’t come to Casablanca without visiting this architectural masterpiece. It’s one of the largest mosques in the world, sitting over the Atlantic Ocean. The craftsmanship is breathtaking and a delight to see both inside and outside. You can book a tour to see this here.
2. Go Surfing in Ain Diab
Casablanca has a surprisingly active surf scene! When I arrived in Casablanca, Morocco, my manager was kind enough to ask me to come and do surfing. I wouldn’t say it was my fave thing to do. I was like my eyelashes, my hair, oh my gosh LMAO! BUT one thing about me is I tried it and I’m glad I did!
Whether you’re a beginner or just want to rent a board, Ain Diab beach is the go-to spot. The waves, the vibe, and the ocean breeze? Absolute bliss.
3. Treat Yourself to a Hammam Spa Experience
Did you know there’s a Hammam spa at the bottom of the Hassan II Mosque. Yeah, I didn’t think so either. It’s a great way to relax and reset with a traditional Moroccan hammam. You’ll be steamed, scrubbed, and massaged in the ultimate self-care ritual. You can also opt for a local bathhouse or go luxe at a hotel spa like Le Doge or Four Seasons.
4. Dine at Rick’s Café
This is for my Casablanca film watchers! Yes, the Rick’s Café is a real-life tribute to the 1942 film in Casablanca. I’m embarrassed to say I only now know about the film because I’ve lived in Casablanca. The restaurant gets booked pretty so worth booking; otherwise, you won’t get in. The restaurant has wonderful cocktails, live jazz music and a nice blend of Moroccan and international flavours on the menu. It has been great going on mission visits and a romantic evening, or a solo treat.
5. Take the Al Boraq Bullet Train
Hop on Morocco’s high-speed train and explore nearby cities like Rabat or Tangier in record time. It’s a sleek, efficient way to see more of the country and experience Moroccan innovation. You can book your tickets here.
6. Relax on the Beach
Casablanca’s coastline is one of its best beauties. Honestly, living near a beach has been a dream. You can head over to Ain Diab, which is the most popular beach, it’s filled with beach clubs, restaurants, and more. You can also go to the Anfa Beach, which also has one of the largest malls in Casablanca. There is also activities like Escape rooms and shops.
7. Wander the Old Medina
Step back in time as you explore Casablanca’s historic medina. I remember when I first came out to Casablanca, I stayed right next to the Old Medina, but didn’t have the time to go and see it. I would say it’s not as touristy as Marrakech. But honestly I think that gives it a more local, authentic feel. You can come here and shop for Moroccan oils, perfumes, souvenirs and admire the architecture.
8. Explore Casablanca’s Street Art
Casablanca is surprisingly colourful. The city has a growing street art scene, especially in neighbourhoods like Maarif. Keep your camera ready for unexpected creativity on the walls.
9. Visit Villa des Arts
A peaceful escape from the hustle, Villa des Arts is a contemporary art gallery showcasing Moroccan and international artists. It’s also housed in a beautiful Art Deco building and often hosts free exhibitions.
10. Enjoy Rooftop Dining with a View
There’s nothing like seeing Casablanca from above. Head to places like Roof Le Kimmy’z or Sky 28 for cocktails, live music, and sweeping city views, especially stunning at sunset.
Bonus – On Things to Do in Casablanca
- You have to do a cooking class in Casablanca if you ever get the change. You will be able to make a Tagine and connect with the local Moroccans.
My Top Restaurants To Eat At in Casablanca
- Le Cabestan – A Casablanca icon. This upscale seaside restaurant offers panoramic views of the Atlantic and a chic atmosphere. Go for sunset, order the seafood, and soak in the vibe.
- Rick’s Café – Inspired by the film Casablanca, this spot serves up Moroccan and international dishes in a nostalgic setting with live piano music. A must-visit for the experience.
- L’Hostaria da Giovani – One of the best Italian restaurants in the city, perfect for a cosy dinner with pasta, wine, and attentive service.
- Organic Kitchen – A more modern, health-conscious spot in the Gauthier district with excellent brunch options, vegan dishes, and great decor. A digital nomad favourite.
- La Sqala -Set in a charming old fortress near the port, La Sqala is a garden-style restaurant known for traditional Moroccan breakfasts and local charm.
- Oh My Bun! – For something more casual, Blend offers some of the best gourmet burgers in town, a great stop for lunch after exploring the city.
- Iloli– A high-end Japanese restaurant offering omakase-style dining, fresh sushi, and a peaceful ambience. It’s pricey but worth the treat.

Casablanca is often overlooked because it is a business city. I have seen many travellers say it’s not always the first city they think of when visiting Morocco, but it has a rhythm and richness that’s completely unique. For me, it’s been more than just a place to live; it’s been a chapter of self-discovery, connection, and adventure.
