Best Solo Travel Destinations for Women
I get it many of you that are reading this post today are eager or have some interest in solo travelling this year or next year and beyond. And so I will get straight to the point, here are a list of underrated destinations for Black women to visit in Europe.
When it comes to solo travel as a Black woman, European solo travel is often where the most questions come up. Is it safe to travel solo? Can I go by myself? Well the easiest answer for me is if you have lived in this world as a Black women then a good majority of the world is good for you to go solo.
But I get it that when it comes down to European solo travel for Black women there are still a number of fears, assumptions and unanswered questions. And after travelling to over 60 countries, with over 30 of them solo. Many if not all have been surprising, affirming, and peaceful experiences.
And I want you to also travel with eager eyes, where you are welcomed, affirmed and experience peace. So today, I focus this list on underrated Europe destinations. These destinations are chosen because they are often labelled “random,” “unsafe,” or “not for us.” I’ve visited all these destinations myself, travelled solo in, and felt comfortable navigating on my own.

Underrated Europe Destinations
1. Serbia – 10/10
Serbia is one of the most underrated travel destinations I have been too and it completely surprised me. In a good way too. You would have seen that Serbia is truly beautiful, the food is rich and comforting and did I say that the landscapes are stunning. Not to mention value for money.
As a Black woman travelling solo, I felt safe from the moment I arrived. Quite literally. I walked around alone at night by myself, explored freely, and never once felt uncomfortable or out of place. People were kind, direct, and incredibly helpful. I was complimented, supported, and treated with warmth in a way I just didn’t quite expect.
I travelled by myself rom Belgrade into the snowy mountains of Zlatibor. And I did a tour to Eastern Serbia which was soo worth it. This is one of those countries that quietly stays with you forever and I am keen to go back again in the summer.

2. Montenegro – 9/10
I am seeing more and more Black women visit Montenegro and for good reason. Montenegro feels like a deep breath and is another underrated destinations in Europe. The country is an absolutely stunning country that I should have given some time to actually visit more off.
Montenegro is small but incredibly beautiful. The dramatic mountains, clear water, medieval towns, and a slower pace of life. I felt comfortable moving around solo, and the people were warm and very respectful to me. I would say that it is more on the pricey side compared to Serbia, but is totally worth visiting.
If you love nature, quiet moments, and scenic views without the chaos of mass tourism, Montenegro is a perfect option. It’s one of the most underrated destinations in Europe, and I already know I need to go back.

3. Albania – 9/10
Albania is one the most underrated destinations I have come across and I would argue that it is one of Europe’s best-kept secrets. The beaches are stunning, the food, where does one begin. The fish, the meats, pastas and salads are fresh and affordable, and the people are genuinely some of the kindest I’ve met while travelling.
As a Black woman, travelling to his underrated gem was such a breeze. I felt welcomed and at ease never rushed, not watched, just free to enjoy my experience. If you want a destination that offers beauty, warmth, and value without the price tag of Western Europe, Albania is a must.

4. Latvia – 8/10
Latvia was one of those countries that I would say is an underrated destination indeed. I went for my first International Travel Conference and loved it. I did activities that you wouldn’t always expect your every Black women to do like Ķemeri National Park which was an experience indeed!
Riga is one of those underrated destinationas that is truly beautiful. It has elegant architecture, which I would one day like to explore as I am sure there is some association with Black people. Now while I didn’t go alone, or solo. I defo arrived by myself as I do in many countries, I’ve travelled I felt comfortable moving around, exploring on foot, and enjoying my own company without feeling watched or out of place.
It’s not loud, flashy, destinations, but I would say that Latvia is perfect if you want a peaceful European solo travel city break where you can reflect, wander, and just be. 5. Bulgaria – 7/10
Bulgaria was my first ever skiing trip, and for that alone it will always hold a special place. However, I always have to share my experiences with you as honestly as I can be. Despite enjoying my skiing experience because it was fun learning a new spot. I did experience a few racial comments. Nothing deeply threatening, but noticeable for me to make a note of. That said, it didn’t overshadow the experience and I simply ignored.
All the same, I somewhat learnt how to ski, which was a major plus for me. And the mountains were beautiful, the trip was affordable, and it was a great introduction to winter travel and skiing for me.

My Final Views On Underrated Travel Destinations for Black Women
This list I have just shared focused on underrated destination because that’s where I receive the most questions, hesitation, and concern from Black women considering solo travel.
I think there is something so profound for us as Black people to start widening our eyes and go beyond our limits! The world is huge and is ready for you to visit!
Not all underrated Europe destinations are unsafe and can be done solo with so much ease. I tend to find the most underrated destinations tend to be the most tourist friendly towards Black women from my 66+ countries that I have traveled to. Sometimes it’s the underrated travel destinations that remain untouched, that are usually deeply rewarding.
