The Best Debit Card for Airport Lounge Access: Introduction
There are so many cards in the world but what is the best debit card for airport lounge access? Every time I travel I have to get airport lounge access. It’s not the most luxurious food you’ll get, but it does feel necessary when you are travelling. If I’m honest, it reminds me a little of your classic school dinners. But for me, airport lounges are a lovely way to start a trip. They allow me to respond to emails if I’m travelling for work, grab a hot meal, and charge all my gadgets before a long flight. I also find that airpot lounges also have quite space which is lovely when you have a very long flight.
And for someone who travels as much as I do, often solo, for both work and pleasure, lounges have become my little rituals of peace before I takeoff. So whether I’m grabbing a hot meal at the VIP Lounge Punta Cana or sneaking in a nap before a red-eye in the Singapore airport lounge access matter a lot to me.
And guess what? You don’t need to fly business to enjoy airport lounge access. Here is how I get airport lounge access for free. I’m about to tell you how you can access airport lounges for FREE literally just by getting one of the best debit card for airport lounge access.

International Airport Lounge Access Debit Cards/Credit Cards
I’ve often shared reviews of lounges I’ve visited and how I’ve accessed them for free. Here’s how:
- American Express Card – I have a card that gives me four complimentary lounge visits a year. You’ll need either a Platinum or Gold Amex to get this perk via Priority Pass. I highly recommend getting one if you want to level up your travel game; you’ll enjoy lounge access, travel insurance, and many more perks. You can apply for your card here.
- Barclays Travel Insurance + Dragon Pass Premier – Having a Barclays account is one of the best debit card for airport lounge access. Add the travel insurance to your debit card and you will get six free visits per year to over 1,000 airport lounges, plus discounted fast-track security and other perks. Apply via Barclays Travel Insurance.
- Priority Pass – Even without a credit card, you can buy lounge access via Priority Pass. The standard membership gives you up to 10 visits a year and options to bring a guest. You can get yours here.
When I’m travelling with friends or loved ones, I always like to treat them to lounge access. I think it’s just such a nice way to start (or end) a trip. You can easily get a number of international airport lounge access debit cards like Lloyds TSB, Natwest but there are also other cards you get that I have mentioned above.

My Favourite Lounges Around the World
1. Club Aspire Lounge – London Heathrow (Pre-book Only)
One of the first lounges I ever visited. I was heading to Lagos and wanted some peace before the bustle.
The vibe was and aesthetics were good. It has loads of plug sockets (yes to charging laptops, phones, and iPads).
And a great English breakfast, if you go early you can enjoy baked beans, pork sausages, hash browns, fried eggs, toast. Yes, please and thank you x1000. You can also enjoy plenty of teas and coffees, pastries, and even wine if you fancy (it’s 5pm somewhere).
Tip: Pre-book. This lounge fills up quickly. Arrive at least 2-3 hours before your flight to enjoy it properly.
2. Plaza Premium Lounge – North Terminal Gatwick Airport
The Plaza Premium Lounge is very chic and quite modern. I would say it’s super comfy and depending on the day is very quiet. And if you like flight watching and relaxing before a long-haul flight, this is perfect for you.

3. Club Aspire Lounge – South Terminal Gatwick Airport
I’ve enjoyed another Club Aspire Lounge, but at Gatwick Airport. I visited this lounge before flying to Rwanda for my East Africa tour. Me the girls and I enjoyed champagne, nibbles, and Biscoff biscuits. What is it with airports and Biscoff?!
I would highly advise pre-booking as an essential. Walk-ins are hit or miss.
4. Marhaba Lounge – Zanzibar International Airport
The Marhaba Lounge was a bright and simple lounge and a great way to end the trip around East Africa. It had the local snacks, a variation of juice, strong coffee (for those that love it – not me!), and just enough peace before boarding my indirect flights.
This one I booked via Dragon Pass Premier, and it was an easy walk in, but I always advise a pre-booking for ease.
5. VIP Lounge – Puta Cana Airport Dominican Republic
This lounge was way more luxurious than I expected! And the food was light and refreshing.
I was flying solo, and this space gave me everything I needed. Comfort and quiet. Two things I love. There was comfy seating, pool access, a light buffet, and a sense of calm before my long-haul. For my first Caribbean lounge access, I have to say I was impressed.
Why Airport Lounges Matter to Me?
Airport lounge access has become more than just a place to grab a bite to eat. I know I love to eat, but they honestly offer me peace of mind. And if you know me, peace of mind is a golden standard for me.
Whether I’m recharging my devices, enjoying a warm meal, or simply taking a moment to breathe before boarding, lounges give me a space to feel safe and a little bit special. They help set the tone for my journey, calm, intentional, and unrushed, which is exactly how I want to feel when I travel.
Tips for First-Timers Using Airport Lounge Access
- Download DragonPass to check entry options and pre-book! And get the right date of your travels to the airport.
- Always pre-book Aspire if flying from the UK
- Bring a portable charger, not all lounges have easy plugs, especially if you are travelling away from home.
- Don’t be afraid to ask: “Is this covered by my pass?”
- Get to the lounge at least 2-3 hours before your flight so you can enjoy the facilities.
- And keep eye of where the board is so you can know where your departure gate is.
Airport Lounge Access: Final Views
And there you have it! Five of my fave airport lounges I’ve experienced. I don’t think it’s always necessary to fly business, but I believe in treating myself like a first-class traveller. It’s the little things that make a big difference. And I believe you deserve it too.
