Introduction

Once you have booked your flight, sorted our your itinerary, done your nails, eyelashes, packed what is left? Your hairstyle of course! For my Black Queens, I think this can make or break your travels. If you are stuck on your next holiday hairstyles for your travels then let me help you out.

One of the many joys of being a Black woman is the versatility we have with our hair. Braids, weaves, wigs, twist-outs, buns etc. and etc. You name it, we can rock it all and it’s why I don’t buy new outfits for every holiday because a new hairstyle can switch it all the way up for me.

I usually base my hairstyle on the type of trip I’m doing. If I’m going on an active adventure, lots of early morning activities with lots of movement and excursions (aka glistening heavy) because I don’t sweat. I’ll always go for braids. If it’s a colder destination and I want a little warmth and glam, it’s giving weave or a wig.

So if you’re planning your next trip and need some inspiration, here are my go-to easy holiday hairstyles and where I’ve worn them!

How I Pick My Holiday Hairstyles

I usually pick my hairstyle based on:

  • The destination (beach or city? hot or cold?)
  • The climate (humidity, wind, dry air?)
  • The vibe (is it soft life or adventure?)
  • The outfits (what outfits am I wearing?)
  • And most importantly… how much effort I want to put in during the trip!

Let’s be honest, we’re not trying to spend our precious holiday time doing a 4-step hair routine every single morning. And if I can I avoid carrying my tools like straighteners, hot comp to do my hair.

My Go-To Holiday Hairstyles

1. Braids – Knotless, Box, Goddess

I think the top Black holiday hairstyles is braids. It’s actually my number one for travel, especially if I’ll be out all day doing activities. With these styles, you can swim, hike, and don’t have to carry any equipments so it means more room for your outfits! Plus, I love the clean look of braids because they always photograph well!

Where I wore them:

  • 🇳🇬 Nigeria
  • 🇷🇼Rwanda
  • 🇬🇲 The Gambia

2. Slick-Back Bun or Low Puff

Perfect for weekend breaks or when I’m in a minimalist mood. A good edge control, some gel, and a satin scarf to set it? Chef’s kiss.

Where I wore it:

  • 🇵🇹 Lisbon
  • 🇪🇸 Barcelona

3. Wigs – Glueless or U-Part

Wigs are a nice go-to easy holiday hairstyles for colder destinations or if I want to be able to switch up the look during the trip. Glueless wigs make my life easy, but if I need to I will use a little spray on glue.

Where I wore them:

  • 🇦🇱 Albania
  • 🇧🇪 Brussels
  • 🇭🇷 Croatia

4. Weave – Leave Out or Closure

If I want to look cute and put-together without doing the most, a closure or leave-out sew-in works perfectly. Long-lasting and travel-proof.

Where I wore it:

  • 🇰🇪 Kenya
  • 🇲🇦 Morocco

My Holiday Hairstyle Tips

  • Always pack a silk or satin bonnet
  • Bring a travel-size spray bottle for moisturising your hair
  • Don’t forget edge control + a mini brush
  • Headwraps are a lifesaver when your hairline is on strike
  • Try to get your hair done the day before you fly
