Introduction
The quotes for travelling with friends is if I had waited for my friends every time I wanted to travel, I wouldn’t have seen half the countries I’ve been to. Sound familiar? Of course it does. The it didn’t make it out the group chat phases. The “maybe next year” excuses. The flaky last-minute cancellations. I’ve been there waiting to travel and it’s exhausting. What if I told you to stop waiting for friends to travel?
One of the best things I ever did was stop waiting for my friends to travel and just started going solo or just booking with a travel group company.
In this post, I’m going to tell you exactly why you should stop waiting for your friends to travel, and why doing so could allow you the freedom to see the world and taste the world too. Let’s get into it!

Your Timeline Is Yours And Not Theirs
Everyone is on a different timeline. Your friends may not be able to travel because of finances, fear, family, or even a lack of desire. And that’s OK. But if YOU want to travel and keep delaying your own travel goals to fit around your friends, you’ll find yourself one not going anywhere, living with regret and simply living by their script not your own. And who wants to do that?
I’ll be really honest with you I prefer solo travel over group travel with companies anytime any-day. Why? Because I actually love my own company so much and I’m more introverted than I’ve come to realise. But. Just a little but, if I didn’t pluck up the courage to do group trips I honestly wouldn’t have gone to places like India, Peru, Senegal. Or even skied in Bulgaria and theres more.
It’s all about your priorities right? I knew I wanted to go to these countries. But if I’m even more honest I didn’t have the confidence to go to these countries by myself. Now I would probs go anywhere by-myself well except for Antartica. And I really do want to go there one day.
Group Trips Are Hard to Plan (and Even Harder to Execute)
You’ve probably tried it: you been waiting to travel. You are doing the most, being patient in the Whatsapp Group Chat, picking dates, finding locations, budgeting. It’s like herding cats! Honestly! Did I say it’s exhausting!
Coordinating diaries with your friends is one thing, but trying to make sure everyone actually follows through? That’s a full-time job. Instead, plan the trip you want and let anyone who’s serious meet you there.
Most of my friends, if they want to travel they tend to just ask me where I’m going and they come along with me. I stopped waiting for people and just booked and went. Wether you book a group trip or you go solo. Trust me you won’t regret going. If it’s what you want to do of course!

Solo Travel Builds Confidence and Clarity
When you stop waiting for friends and travel solo, something amazing happens: you grow and build your self confidence. You also learn to trust yourself so much more. To eat alone without shame. Explore new places with courage. You realise that you are capable of so much more than you ever gave yourself credit for.
And let’s be real. The solo confidence hits different when you travel solo. Moving to countries solo without family to Singapore and Morocco gave me serious confidence and I still carry those memories till this day.

You’ll Meet People You Were Never Supposed to Miss
One of the most unexpected joys of solo and planned group travel is meeting strangers who turn into friends. Whether it’s a hostel chat, another group traveller, a food tour, or a fellow solo traveller you bump into at breakfast, going with a planned group or alone actually makes you more open to meeting like minded people.
I have met so many cool people travelling alone and I have made so many amazing friends that I have met on my group trips.
Time (and Opportunities) Won’t Wait for You
Waiting for others can delay dreams that were ready for you now. That language immersion trip. That food tour or cooking class. That festival. Some experiences are time-sensitive and the longer you wait, the more life passes you by.
Take the trip. Book the flight. The right people will catch up with you eventually. Trust me! You can also use websites like Viator or GetYourGuide if you want to book tours.
Group Trips Consider Them If You Really Want to Travel
Now I fully get it so people just don’t want to go solo travel doing it alone is not for them. You may want to go somewhere that might be to overwhelming for solo travel or difficult to navigate. Or you might just be so busy you want someone else to plan your trip and you just plan and turn up. Then consider group trips with companies. Here are a few I have travelled with:
- GoJolley
- WindCollective
- Ajala Travel Tours
- Cycy Travels
- Mount Noire
- IntrepidTravel
- Ayoviama – my very own travel group that you should come!
These are travel companies that host group trips around the world. Check their websites, DM them on Instagram and don’t forget to tell them that I sent you. And please do read reviews and weigh up your options before booking.
