Introduction

I’ve noted that more and more people are travelling to Africa and I love it for us. If you are not sure where to start here are the best African countries for beginners that I would always recommend going.

Africa is the most vastly diverse continent I’ve ever explored. I think we can all agree, that no two countries are the same. Every country has its own rhythm, flavour, and a story to tell. After travelling to several African nations, I can confidently say each one offers something beautifully unique. Many of you have told me you want to explore more of Africa but don’t know where to start. Well, I’m here to help.

Whether you’re planning a solo trip, a getaway with your partner, or an adventure with friends, these are 6 of the best African countries for beginner in Africa that I would highly recommend based on my own experiences. Each destination made me feel safe, offered rich cultural experiences, and gave me good vibes from start to finish.

Key Things to Know Before Visiting Any Countries in Africa

  • Internet: You’ll definitely want internet while exploring any of this best African countries list below. I usually use Airalo for an eSIM, which allow you to get mobile data as soon as you land.
  • Travel Insurance: I recommend anyone travelling should have travel insurance which you can get via SafetyWing here.

🇲🇦 Morocco

A true sensory adventure. If you are looking for the best North African countries to visit then Morocco is it. It has everything from the souks of Marrakech to the calm of Chefchaouen and the beaches of Essaouira, Morocco is a solo traveller’s dream. Be smart, stay alert, and the country will reward you with colour, flavour, and character. After living and travelling around Morocco I can honestly say it’s a country for any type of traveller. You can read my travel guide here.

🇬🇭 Ghana

Warm, welcoming, and rich with culture. Ghana is a great intro to West Africa with friendly locals, a vibrant food scene, and deep history (don’t miss Cape Coast). Accra is easy to navigate, and there’s a thriving Black expat and digital nomad scene. You can read my experiences in Ghana here. You can also check out Christina from ChristinaJane who has done a lot of Ghanaian travel.

🇷🇼 Rwanda

Known as the “Land of a Thousand Hills,” Rwanda is one of the safest and cleanest countries in Africa and I would highly recommend as one of the best African countries for beginners to visit. Kigali is calm and modern, while places like Lake Kivu or Volcanoes National Park give you a chance to reflect and connect with nature. You can read my travel guide here.

🇹🇿 Tanzania (Zanzibar)

If you want solo travel with a slice of paradise, Zanzibar is it. Beautiful beaches, friendly locals, and rich Swahili culture make it perfect for relaxing, reflecting, and meeting new people on tours or cooking classes. However it is not the cheapest African countries to visit that I would add on this list. You can read my Zanzibar guide here.

🇨🇻 Cape Verde

Cape Verde is such a laid-back island that I would high recommend to anyone who is looking for a relaxed vibe type of holiday. Cape Verde is an actual island of paradise. Perfect for travellers seeking beach vibes, Creole culture, and adventure on their own terms. It’s truly a hidden gem worth exploring. You can read my Cape Verde guide here.

🇿🇦 South Africa

Cape Town, in particular, is great for travellers. I would say it is one of the best African countries to visit because of it’s stunning views, incredible food, and an active traveller scene. There are tours for everything, and it’s easy to meet people. Just be mindful of where you stay and how you move around. You can read my South African guide here.

Final Views on the Best African Countries for Beginners

Travelling to Africa can be complex there certainly isn’t a one-size-fits-all process, but it’s 100% worth it. I often feel that Africa doesn’t receive the level of tourism love it truly deserves and needs. Hence why I write this post today. We have to remember it’s not called the motherland for no reason. These in my opinion are the best African countries to visit for vacation, where you start with ease and explore the continent with confidence.

Let me know, have you been to any of these? What African country is on your travel bucket list? Do you disagree with any of the ones I’ve mentioned. Let’s meet in the comments below 👇🏽
