Introduction
July 2012 was one of my favourite years because I travelled to Ibiza and Marbella. It was the year that I took trips that didn’t just give me memories but it quietly changed my life. I am writing this a few years later as I want to remember my first trip abroad to Ibiza and Marbella for my friends 21st Birthday. I was just 20 years old and it felt like a real dream to be travelling abroad with my first ever British Passport.
I travelled to Ibiza and Marbella for a friend’s birthday, but what made this trip truly special was that Ibiza was the first country I visited after finally getting my British passport. After struggling for years with documentation and limitations around travel, stepping onto that plane felt unreal. For the first time, the world felt open to me.
We arrived in Marbella first, spending two days celebrating, drinking, laughing, and doing what you do best. Living our best lives! Yolo! Here is a quick post on me remaining on my first trip abroad with friends to Ibiza and Marbella.

Why Marbella & Ibiza?
Marbella and Ibiza are two of Europe’s most iconic holiday destinations, known for attracting travellers from across Europe, the US, and around the world. They’re famous for their beach clubs, nightlife, sunshine, and that luxury-meets-party atmosphere that makes them popular summer escapes.
Marbella is often associated with glamour, beach clubs, and laid-back luxury, while Ibiza is known globally for its music scene, legendary parties, and carefree energy. Back then, going to places like these felt aspirational the kind of destinations you saw people talk about but didn’t always imagine yourself visiting.
Marbella beach club
Day 1 we spent our first day at a Marbella beach club, which cost around £60. I would say that was quite pricey for me. It felt like serious money, but the experience was worth every penny: sunbeds by the pool, music playing all day, drinks flowing, and that carefree holiday energy you can’t recreate once life gets busier.
Marbella had a glamorous feel beach days that turned into late nights, and that mix of luxury and chaos that makes birthday trips so memorable. Everything felt exciting because it was a new experience for me which I absolutely loved and was so happy friend gave me the opportunity.
We caught the bus to our 5* hotel Marbella Hotels, it was around 5 euros! And can you imagine I lost it so had to go and buy a new one. You could definitely tell I wasn’t someone that travelled the world at this point!
Marbella to Ibiza
From Marbella, we took a flight to Ibiza, which was another personal milestone for me. It was my first time ever taking an internal flight, and even something that simple felt like an achievement back then. I remember feeling proud of myself in a way I didn’t yet have the words for.
Ibiza was exactly what I imagined and more beach clubs, pool parties, packed dance floors, and endless energy. The days blurred into nights, and the nights into mornings. We took photos without thinking about filters or algorithms, danced without worrying about who was watching, and lived completely offline.
Conclusion
Looking back now, those photos from 2012 capture more than just a party holiday. They capture freedom, growth, and the beginning of my relationship with travel. I didn’t know it then, but that trip planted the seed for everything that came after solo travel, exploring the world, and building a life where movement and curiosity are at the centre.
Ibiza and Marbella weren’t just destinations. They were my introduction to possibility. They allowed me to bring MyBreakingviews here today.
