Introduction
Looking for a quick pocket-size Italy travel guide for 3 days in Florence? You have come to the right place. Keep on reading. Florence has my actual whole heart. And if you haven’t visited then I am convinced that this post will make you want to spend at least 3 days in Florence. It’s one of those cities that feels like a living museum, like every corner bursts with Renaissance art, breathtaking architecture, and incredible food. And honestly three days is the sweet spot to explore the best of Florence without rushing. I caught the train straight from Pisa all the way to Florence, which was no more than a 2 hours journey.
If you are travelling to and spending a few days in Florence I would highly recommend a nearby city like Pisa to have as an add on. I have written a detailed guide for you to use to plan your trip which you can find here. However, I know not everyone has amples of time and if that is you and you only have time from Florence then here’s my Florence itinerary for 72 hours in this Tuscan beauty. So if you are looking for how many day in Florence you should spend then here it is.

Spend 3 Days in Florence Itinerary
Day 1 – Iconic Florence
- The Duomo (Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore) – This is the symbol of Florence and a must see when in Florence. I climbed the 463 steps to the top (no elevator!), and while it was a really good workout, the views over the city made every step totally worth it.
- Galleria dell’Accademia – Home to Michelangelo’s David, one of the most famous sculptures in the world. There are also plenty of other Renaissance works worth seeing if you have the time.
- Ponte Vecchio – Florence’s iconic medieval bridge lined with jewellery shops. A perfect spot for a stroll and photos at sunset.

Day 2 – Food & Views
I had already shared a detailed post with everything I ate in Florence so do have a read here. But of course if you are rush for time I have listed the highlights below:
- Mercato Centrale – This was foodie heaven! Fresh pasta, local delicacies, and buzzing food stalls. I tried truffle pasta here and it was one of the best meals of my trip.
- Piazzale Michelangelo – For one of the best views of Florence, especially during the sunset. I booked a photographer through Airbnb Experiences for around £50, and it was one of my best travel decisions.
- Arno River walk – Take a slow stroll along the river, crossing bridges like Ponte Santa Trinita and Ponte alla Carraia. Florence really comes alive in the evenings.

Day 3 – Palaces & Gardens
- Pitti Palace – Once home to the Medici family, this lavish palace is now home to several museums.
- Boboli Gardens – Located right behind the palace, the gardens are full of sculptures, fountains, and gorgeous green spaces. It’s the perfect way to spend a sunny afternoon.

Florence Travel Tips and Other Resources
- Transport– Florence doesn’t have Uber, so prepare to walk a lot (comfortable shoes are a must!) And to be honest you don’t really want to be getting uber everywhere. Walking is very accessible. You will need to get taxis and it will be pretty pricey. And if you’re flying out of Pisa, catch the train back to Pisa Centrale. Easy, fast, and budget-friendly and much more affordable way to travel.
- My Instagram and TikTok have quick reels and specifics of my visit to Italy.
- Before going to any of these countries, I recommend visiting the Foreign Advice Page for U.K. travellers. Check if you need visas here.

And there you have it. How to spend at least 3 days in Florence in one easy bitesize post. What do you think? Have I been able to convince you at all?
Florence is a city you’ll never forget. I actually know it’s my favorite city before Rome, Bologna, Pisa and even Venice, which I absolutely love.
From climbing the Duomo to watching the sunset at Piazzale Michelangelo, every moment feels like stepping into history. Three days gave me the perfect taste of the city, but honestly I could’ve stayed forever. Read my full guide on – An Italy Travel Guide: Florence & Pisa.
