Working From Home Successfully During LockDown Tips

By Posted on 0 3 m read 320 views

7th week on lockdown and 7th week of working from home.

I’ve been working from home for 7 weeks and I can honestly tell you it’s been a difficult one. I’ve been working from home before COVID19 since my first role in Central Government in 2016. So I feel like I have some idea of the expectations of how an organisation would expect you to work.

5 Tips on How to Work From Home Successfully during the Lockdown

So we are still under lockdown and although measures are starting to be lifted in some countries. I think for many businesses working from home may still be in action for a little while longer. Some people may be struggling with working from home (WFH). So I have helpfully jotted down a few points on how to work from home successfully during a lockdown.

1. Create a Working from Home To-Do List

lockdown working from home

I started doing this recently and it changed my life! Start your day with a to-do list. It can be done in 10 mins. You just need to jot down a list of things you want to achieve in a day. This will help with structuring your day.

Don’t be afraid to get excited when you’re able to tick off your tasks throughout the day. Without office-based distractions, you may actually be more productive with a to-do list!

2. Take Breaks from your laptop

working from home take a break

Please take breaks. Sitting on your laptop all day can become exhausting and mentally draining. I’m currently working on a couple of scoping projects. So it’s essential to take a break from all the reading I do during the day. I always take a 10 min break after long meetings. It can be quite challenging to go straight into a new task.

Take breaks, go for a walk or check your social. Just do something, anything that will get you away from your laptop for 5 mins.

3. Get ready to work from home

Back when working from home was a luxury. I used to literally roll out of bed at the last minute and log in. Shhh, don’t tell my manager. However, now in lockdown, I am starting to realise having a shower in the morning and wearing work clothes sets my day. Going for a walk in the morning is also helpful with getting my headspace ready for work. Of course, I don’t do this every single day. But when I am struggling the most with working from home – this structure can help me and might help you too.

So no more setting up from your bed or from your sofa. Get yourself in the zone and sit at a table and maintain a good posture.

4. Do some exercise

exercise during lockdown

Right at the beginning of the lockdown, I was so into exercising. I was sometimes squeezing in two workouts a day. I loved it.

Go out for some fresh air – please maintain social distancing. Get some fresh air, walk, cycle run do whatever you think will help clear your headspace. If you’re like me you will be used to commuting to work, so you will need to make up for the time. Anything is something even if it’s only 10 mins.

5. Stay connected with others

We are very fortunate to be able to work from home in this political climate we are in. Working remotely or working from home doesn’t mean working in isolation. Interact with others throughout the week. Have meetings, there are lots of different types of technology you can use Zoom/Microsft Teams, Skype and more. I recently organised a lunchtime session with my colleagues to feel like we were having lunch together.

How To Avoid A Holiday Giveaway Scam!

By Posted on 0 4 m read 592 views

Scam! Yes, it has happened to me! I am not pleased to admit it, but I would be lying if I said it didn’t happen. As I’m constantly on the socials, I enter myself into several giveaways. So, when I entered for this giveaway scam to the Canary Islands with flights, accommodations and spending money included I couldn’t say no. I mean who would?

scam crystaltravel.uk
I mean it looks pretty legit right?

The giveaway was supposed to be with CrystalTravel.uk – or at least I thought it was. The account had over 10.8k followers so I couldn’t believe I thought it was legit. I didn’t realise people still bought followers!

scam scam

All I had to do was tag my travel buddy, which to me was super easy. I, of course, tagged my babe and within a few days, I was sent a DM that I had won a prize to Tenerife for 10 days with £500 spending money! I mean I was over the moon I hardly ever win anything!

scam
The DM sent to me to say congrats
I was fully gassed!

Your girl was already and planning her hairstyle and outfits she was going to take on this getaway. I quickly sent a message to my partner to let him know about the good news!

CrystalTravel was asking me for some personal information.  They asked me to send a picture of my passport and a picture of myself titled Crystal Travel. I was so excited to go I didn’t even consider that this might be a scam! Why would it be?

I sent a copy of my passport despite ALL my work colleagues telling me to calm down and not too! In my head, I thought these guys don’t want me to be great! Of course, I am going to send what they have requested! It didn’t take long before I came back to earth. It was getting weird where they were sending me some bizarre responses, so I started asking questions.

I went over to their official website, which they added to the bio of the fake account and messaged their online chat service.  They quickly informed me that it was a scam! WTF! A SCAM!! I couldn’t believe that I HAD JUST SENT OVER MY DETAILS AND THIS WAS ALL A SCAM!

scam
is this a scam?

This was heart-breaking.  All those outfits I was planning had gone out the window in literally seconds.

Short-lived, but I learnt a few things that I think you should know about them too. Below are three things to ask yourself before passing any details.

1. Don’t send any details to scammers

To be honest with you it was extremely stupid of me to send over my passport details to these fraudsters.  I already knew that they didn’t need me to send passport picture to book a flight, but I think my excitement got the better of me and I just went with it.

Don’t get like me and get so excited that you forget that there are scammers out there. And just because you would never do something like this to anyone doesn’t mean these people don’t exist.

2. If you do send info contact the police and report the fraud

You will need to contact the police and report that you have been scammed. You can report fraud in the UK via this link.

This protects you if anything goes wrong and your identity is used. You might also want to contact your banks etc. to let them know to watch out for any weird activity.

3. Be careful of urgent deadlines

When I was sent the message that I had won the giveaway they demanded I sent everything quickly. Nothing needs to be done immediately.  So, if you’re being asked to hit a deadline, something dodgy is probably going on.

4. Don’t be afraid to ask questions

In my case, I noticed that when I began to ask questions, i.e. go on the official website and ask about the giveaway I learnt it was a fraud. Once they got what they needed, I then noticed the Instagram account blocked me. Ask questions from the very beginning that way you can avoid scammers.

Either way, there are scammers everywhere and sometimes they can get even the best of people. Cough cough, me.

What about yourself have you ever experienced something similar? Let me know in the comments below *no judgements*

Laser Hair Removal Changed How I Travel

By Posted on 2 4 m read 780 views

As a female traveller, you always have a list of things you need to do before you go on a trip. Mine usually involves new hair, eyebrows, eyelashes, nails and pedicure and more etc. If you are travelling and want zero body hair then you need to read this blog post because you might decide to actually consider hair removal.  And if you’re like me, one of those tasks is getting rid of body hair. I used to do this through professional waxing until someone showed me the light – laser hair removal.

After a while, I decided to go ahead with the laser treatment, and I have to say I can’t believe I let it take me so long to get it DONE! In total my treatment with Pulse Light Clinic cost me £638 with a discount! This was for underarms and full Hollywood. I’ve already had 5 sessions and can’t believe it took me so long to get it done! Even with 3 more sessions to go and being under the quarantine I still have no hair!

There are a number of things you should know before considering laser hair removal and I am here to tell you…

7 things to know about laser hair removal

Laser Hair removal can be painful

I think this is the first question people ask me. I will be honest with you. Laser hair removal is not painful. BUT… it can depend on what you usually do for hair removal. If you regularly wax then you will be able to handle this easily. If you are someone that shaves then this might be a bit more painful than usual.

For a couple of days after treatment, the affected skin may become red and tender. Many people describe the sensation as similar to a sunburn. The process itself, however, is typically not painful.

The treatments session can go quite quick

All of my sessions have been extremely short. Before your session, you are advised to shave the areas for laser. Once you are in it’s usually a wipe down and a quick zap of about 20 minutes. With Pulse Light, this includes a good old chat with the dermatologist.

You can’t be in the sun during treatment

Yes, this is true. Staying away from the sun as travellers can be quite difficult. This won’t work if you’re receiving treatment. You will need to avoid sunbathing or sun exposure as much as possible before and after treatments.

Laser Hair removal means you will need to shave the areas off

I mentioned already that you are advised to shave the areas that are to be treated. This at the beginning was difficult for me because I’ve always had a fear of ingrown hairs. However, since I’ve been receiving laser hair removal. I have noticed that I don’t have this problem.

What are the side effects of laser hair removal?

I have to be honest and say that there are a few side effects which can appear after laser hair removal treatment. I’ve experienced some of those side effects, one of them is a constant burn and redness. You can also experience other common side effects such as crusting, a change in skin colour or possible skin infection. Anyone that is experiencing lasting side effects should consult their dermatologist immediately!

Does laser hair removal last for life?

I’ve now done 5 sessions of laser hair removal and so far so good! I can’t say that I won’t ever see hair again, but at least I’ve not seen any for a long time. What I do know is this, hair removal treatment can significantly reduce hair growth. After my first treatment, I noticed that my hair was a lot finer and I hardly noticed any hair.

I’ve paid for eight-session, of which I hope to achieve more of a permanent result. I will have to do a blog post for when I finish my treatment.

It works on all the skin types

At a younger age, I was told that I wasn’t able to receive laser hair treatment due to the pigment into my skin. Times have changed where all skin types are easily managed. Your hair now just needs to be dark enough to be read by the laser.

And there we have it, a few things you need to know before getting your laser hair removal treatment. There are a number of different hair centre’s you can choose from. If you want to know mine then please have a look a Pulse Light Clinic get a free consultation and if you refer a friend you both get £30 off!

Hope this helped you and you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask away my email is: info@mybreakingviews.com

Now you’ve read my post would you consider getting laser hair removal? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below.

A Beginners Guide: 11 Things You Must Know Before Going Skiing

Skiing was a very new experience. This year I vowed to try out new things when travelling. Although I’m unable to travel at the moment. I like to be grateful for being able to try out skiing with the WindCollective and MountNoireLdn in 2020! Yes! For those of you that don’t already know, I took a quick flight, earlier this year and went skiing in Bulgaria. Read – Bulgaria Bansko: My First Ski Weekend Trip

I’ve been meaning to write a post on the things I learnt on my ski weekend trip, but with everything happening right now. I must admit it’s been quite difficult to write about travel let alone about anything else. Below is a general list of things you must know before going skiing for the first time.

11 Things You Must Know Before Going Skiing

1. It is ok to FALL when skiing!

It took me a while to accept it. I was quite adamant that I couldn’t fall while skiing. I mean how does one fall looking cute? I learnt on this trip that even the professionals fall from time to time… so yeah it is ok to fall and trust me I did on several occasions too. People who aren’t afraid of falling over get to grips with skiing faster! So please don’t be discouraged.

2. Protect your eyes and skin

Please take this serious! Like, please! You may not feel the sun because of the white snow, but chances are being that high up you will need to protect your eyes and skin. Get yourself some goggles and good sun protection.

3. Get your body ready for skiing

I would suggest doing some exercises a few weeks before going skiing. When you are skiing you are constantly using your thighs, so it might be painful if you’ve never worked out to just jump on the skies. Try working out your muscles. Anything like squats, cardio would be a good shout!

4. Get yourself the correct ski clothing

I’m sure I don’t need to spell this out to you. It’s so crucial for you to purchase correct clothing when going skiing. I would suggest, Tog24, Sports Direct for the thermal underlayer, coats etc. And then if you wanna look super cute Asos and Topshop lol! Also, don’t forget your ski socks!

5. Renting ski equipment

If you’re hiring ski boots, which you should if you’ve never skied before, (just because of the price) be sure to wear thick socks when you try your boots. They usually make the bindings looser for beginners, meaning the skis pop off easier if and when you fall over. The length of your skis and poles depends on your height and weight, so worth knowing this info.

P.S. There are usually lots of people collecting and dropping off ski hire at the same time, so be prepared for queues and a bit of hanging around.

6. Apres-ski what is it?

Skiing usually slows down between 4 and 5 pm. This is when everyone heads back into town and enjoy “après-ski”, which is basically a well-deserved drink for working so hard all day! There is sometimes live music and DJ – well there was when I was there!

7. Hunger and dehydration

You will constantly be super hungry and dehydrated so have some water with you and some snacks – protein snacks all of that. It will be needed – trust me.

8. Lessons for skiing

Yes as a beginner I would advise having a few lessons. The lessons are there to show you the technique and build your confidence. I had two sessions both started in the morning around 10 am and finished just after lunchtime.

9. Correct skiing footwear

You will need sensible footwear when going skiing. This shouldn’t be so difficult. I would suggest Uggs or walking boots and if you’re like me get yourself some moon boots. I am also selling mine on Depop. So have a look. P.S. I only wore them for a few hours.

10. Consider wearing a helmet

You may want to get yourself a helmet. I personally didn’t because I knew I would be easy on the slopes – haha no I think if you’re a beginner you won’t be sliding down any big slopes – hopefully not anyways.

11. Skiing is FUN!

Remember it’s your first time and skiing is supposed to be fun and therapeutic once you get the hang of it. I have to say, I enjoyed every minute of it. It’s nice to try out something new! And I will defo be going again with more lessons of course!

skiing is fun

And there you have it! 11 Things you must know before going skiing. What about you when was the last time you tried out something new?

I would like to give a special thanks Tog24 for gifting me with my skiwear! Guys check them out they stuff is actually amazing.

How to Prepare Yourself For Post-Covid19

By Posted on 0 5 m read 473 views

How should one prepare themselves post-COVID19? This is an important question we need to be all asking ourselves. When the quarantine is lifted and the crisis subsides, what will we see going on around us? How will the social world behave? The economy? Will things go back to how there were before the pandemic? Will we be able to book a flight and go anywhere we want?

So many questions, which I’m afraid I don’t have the answers too. I wish I did honestly.  However, I don’t think many people know the answers to the million questions being asked around the world. A lot of it is predictions which let’s be real – what else can we do in a situation like this?

We are all under lockdown, for the first time we are all doing the same thing. This to some degree is a positive thing. In the midst of all of this, everyone is trying to stay and remain positive in such a challenging period.

How to Prepare Yourself For Post-COVID19

Although it may not feel like it right now, this COVID-19 crisis won’t last forever. So, we need to prepare ourselves for post-COVID19, right? Below are a few tools that will help to prepare yourself for post-COVID19.

1.Be Still

Please understand that I’m no expert. However, one thing I can say is that being at home has allowed me to just be still. You know sitting still for many people is difficult. People like me like to be kept busy. However, this time doesn’t really allow you do that.

This time has allowed me to reflect on my mental health. In the real world, we are so busy, we are working, we are attending events, we are gyming, we are meeting up with friends that we sometimes struggle to just be still. Being still allows you to concentrate on your mental health.

be still post-COVID19

Use this time to get your headspace right. Grab a journal. Listen to some good music, dance and laugh.  Take some time out to work on your mental health. Work out. Or why not try some meditation, may take up some yoga?  Read – How to Practise Self Care and Compassion.

2.Organise Yourself

You have a lot of time on your hands to organise yourself – like a lot of time. Make a list of things that you couldn’t do because ‘you didn’t have the time to get it done’. I’ve been experimenting with some amazing meals, which wasn’t something I always did before.

And for those Working from Home (WFH) why not use the time to find out how you work effectively? Things will have certainly have changed for you, so take notes on what works and what doesn’t. Organise yourself so you can produce quality work. This will enable you to get yourself into a rhythm which will hopefully help with your workflow.  You may even be able to use these new ways of working post-COVID19.

3. Reflect

Use this time to reflect, (this is quite similar to my first point about being still). There is so much you can reflect on, your past, your present and you know your future. Is there anything your not happy with that you would like to change? Can you change it now?

Are there things you still need to deal with? Like personal traumas or even broken relationships?

Use this time to reflect on yourself. Hold yourself accountable for anything that needs to be resolved.

post-COVID19 REFLECT

4.Set new goals

You may be asking yourself – how am I setting goals when I don’t know when I can act on them?? I’m with you on that one.

Earlier this year I created a mood board.

For those that don’t know what a mood board is:  A mood board is a type of visual presentation or a collage consisting of images, text, and samples of objects in a composition of things you would like to achieve in a space of time.

post-COVID19 MOODBOARD

When this pandemic started, I asked myself how will I be able to follow through with my mood board? However, I decided to create a new mood board. You know one that works for me under quarantine and I still have hope that I will be able to fulfil my original mood board. And you should too.

5. Learn A New Skill

I said earlier that I have been learning to cook more, the other day I learnt to make salt and pepper prawns – because I had the TIME!  Want to know how to find out how to make them head over to WeAreTheFoodWhores Instagram Highlight.

post-COVID19 salt and pepper prawns things too cook.

Use this time to learn a new skill. It can be absolutely anything! I am still working on learning another skill and will update you once I have learnt something new –  hehe!

6. Social Media Cleanse

When COVID19 started, I noticed I was constantly on every social media outlet. I wanted to be distracted by the reality of what was going on. I recognised my addition was bad-bad when I was on it every second of the day.

I’ve been using this time to get away from social media, which has forced me to get back into reading and writing in my journal. Don’t worry I get it; social media is a useful tool.  I am constantly being reminded by close friends that as a blogger I must always be on socials. However, as I’m not writing about travel now, I have decided to use this time to step back from it all. You know take a well-needed break.

SOCIAL MEDIA CLEANSE post-COVID19

Set yourself a time limit you can have on socials each day. Once that time is up it’s time to do something else. Trust me. If you are suffering from anxiety, then this will help.

7. Rest

There is so much going on socials telling people to do this, have a business up and running and all sorts. Honestly, one of the best things for you to do with this extra time is to – REST!

Once this pandemic is over you are going to want to be everywhere! Travellers, if allowed, are gonna want to catch a flight, those that enjoy seeing friends are gonna want to see their friends and family. Life as we once knew it might actually go back to normal. You will be back at work! You will be back to your busy hustle lifestyle.

POST-COVID19 REST

There is so much you will be doing that you will wish you took this time to just REST!

Final Thoughts…

COVID19 has literally paused life for everyone. While it’s nice to know that we are all going through the same thing – for some worst. I and a lot of us have to be extremely thankful for so many things, like having a roof over my head, food when I want it. A job with a consistent salary. Time to slow down. There is also running water for me to wash my hands when I want, and most importantly I do feel safe at home.

Once this pandemic is over I can certainly believe we will be jumping another hurdle and that will be the life post-COVID19. I can’t imagine things will jump back to how they were before, so dealing with your wellbeing and preparing yourself is soo important right now.

What about you what else have you been doing to prepare yourself for post-covid19? Share your comments and thoughts below and let’s learn from each other.
