Hello again, today I will be talking about being your number one fan!
I can’t believe how quickly this year is going already! So many people are building and creating new spaces, business ideas, vlogs, blogs, etc – and I think it’s great! But who is your biggest fan? Do you have any support from the people close to you? Do they even help promote your platform?
Be Your Number one Fan
This article steams from the “My Friends Do Not Support Me – click here to read further I feel that so far, I have started the year out with new plans for my space and I’m grateful to every one of you who continues to support, like, share, and most importantly encourage me with new ideas. It has always surprised me how people who don’t even know me have showed so much support! When I first started out my website, I expected my website to blow. Heck, I expected to have a huge fan base of people to start sharing their views on political issues which affect them the most. It was only after a while that I realised how unrealistic I was being with myself.
It was then that I realised that I had to be my own number one fan!
Don’t get me wrong, my family (my auntie ‘Lola always proof reads my work – thank you auntie); and friends do share a lot of tips and support me, but I always expected more. I know many or a lot of my friends don’t read my blog posts, haven’t read or never plan to do so. It’s not a terrible thing but when some still ask me what I write about, it does raise concerns and gives clear indication that they haven’t even looked at the site – which of course, is disheartening! I am extremely passionate about what I write about; and when you or I expect to see other people share similar interest and they don’t seem to, you begin to question yourself “am I wasting my time”?
“I’m I making any impact”? “Should I just pull the plug now”? I have been praying to God about my platform and have realised that I no longer want to be in a place that anxiously expects fans. I no longer have high expectations of my friends or family to share my content, like comment or support anything I’m doing with my space.
Don’t get me wrong, support from my close family and friends would be good but from now on I am my own fan – in fact I am my own biggest fan – and that’s exactly how it’s going to be from now on! I know now that I only get out of this as much as I put into it, so cheers to me being my own biggest fan! I want to leave you with some pointers to take on – which I’ve learnt from my own blogging and also from other people I’ve asked….
– Be Your Own Biggest Fan
Yes, your expectations for people to follow your business idea, blog or whatever it, is can still be quite high – which is a beautiful thing. Don’t bring it down – because I’ve always believed that it’s good to set for yourself high standards, dreams and expectations. There are in fact no limits in this world – other than the ones which we create for ourselves. So you should always boost yourself up.
– Stay Passionate
I have recently been asking lots of people for advice on their personal platforms, especially those that are doing well in the time scale that I have had my platform. One important thing I learnt was that I needed to stop thinking about the views, followers and comments. I only have to make sure that my platform is crisp, looks good, adds value and most importantly shows my passion.
– Find your audience
I know you want your idea to touch people or have an impact, otherwise why would you be doing it? I understand. One of the things I was taught when I asked around was that I need fellow bloggers who discuss the same things as I do. Since then, I have made an effort to contact political, lifestyle and travel bloggers; followed groups etc. It gets exhausting I know but there is so much that you can do to get yourself out there. It depends on how much you want to excel and succeed.
The only approval you really need is God’s
This may sound slightly contradictory because I have earlier said ‘be your own biggest fan’. The Bible is explicit about the God’s Sprit lives in you. “You are therefore not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if in fact the Sprit of God dwells in you. Anyone whoever does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to Him”.
Romans 8:9 Now I know, right. It’s easy to get caught up only in the worldly things. It’s easy to fall astray and seek only the approval of man. However, I promise you that this can be your biggest downfall in anything you do in your life. Relying on people to be your fans and or seeking approval from them doesn’t matter if you haven’t sought it from God first. I speak to God regularly and when I write something, I always ask for His opinion and approval; trust that He approves of my work.
Final thoughts
Therefore seek God’s approval first; not man’s. ‘Am I now persuading men, or God? Or am I seeking to please men? If I were still pleasing men, I should not be a servant of Christ’. Galatians 1:10 I hope this post really encourages you to not only seek God but to also keep on encouraging yourself.
