Back in December 2015, we spent a weekend in Fuerteventura and jetted of for some winter sunshine for a quick weekend break to celebrate one of my dear friends’ 30th birthday. We booked through OntheBeach and managed to get a package deal flights, hotel, and transfers all for under £300 each.

It was one of my first little group getaways with my girls and I loved every minute of it. There was partying, unlimited drinks, food and sunshine even in December. Read about my Canary Island weekend trip where we enjoyed an all inclusive resort and celebrated my friends birthday!
About Fuerteventura
Fuerteventura is one of the Canary Islands weekend trip in Spain, and honestly one of the perfect spot if you just want some winter sun in December. It’s only about a four-hour flight from London and felt like such an easy getaway. Because it’s Spain you don’t need a visa (just your passport), and the euro is the currency so everything felt straightforward.
I loved how relaxed the island was compared to some of the busier Spanish destinations. One day I was in cold London, the next I was by the beach eating paella, that’s how quick the change was, but I loved it!
Accommodation in Fuerteventura
We stayed at the Elba Lucía Sport & Suite Hotel in Nuevo Horizonte, Fuerteventura. I think most accommodation in Fuerteventura is all-inclusive and worth it. This was an all-inclusive package for 3 nights, which made life so easy. Having meals, drinks, and snacks covered meant we could just relax and enjoy. Weekend in Fuerteventura
Day 1 – Arrival & Chilling
We left bright and early from Stanstead airport at 6.20 in the morning, purchased some snacks and arrived super early on a Friday morning at our hotel. We was able to get shuttle buses with our package deal and early check in. So we checked in, and honestly just chilled. Sometimes the best part of a girls weekend trip is doing absolutely nothing on arrival day. It was just a great unwinding after the flight.

Day 2 – Beach, Food & Night Out
Saturday was all about the beach during the day. We ordered paella and octopus. We enjoyed and loved the paella but definitely didn’t enjoy the octopus. Maybe it was my tastebuds. But the staff were really kind and didn’t make us pay for the octopus.
In the evening, we go all dressed up and went out clubbing at the Waikiki Beach Club Fuerteventura. It was pretty empty when we got there. I’m guessing because it was mid December. However, we made it lively, fun, and gave it a great atmosphere. Perfect for a birthday night out.
Day 3 – Resort Day & Henna
Sunday was slower. We stayed at the hotel, made the most of the all-inclusive food and drinks, and I one of the activities in Fuerteventura you can do is even got a henna tattoo done. The whole day had that holiday relaxation vibe. I’m loving my tan right now see pictures below.
Day 4 – Heading Home
Monday came too quickly. Like, way too quickly. We packed up, had a relaxed morning at the resort, and flew back home in the evening.
Conclusion – Is Fuerteventura Worth Visiting?
It was such a fun trip for a birthday weekend and for the price, it was so a weekend in Fuerteventura worth it. The weather in December was amazing and it felt like we were away for longer than we actually were. I’d definitely go back to Fuerteventura again for a quick escape from the UK.
