Introduction
I’ll be honest, Canada was never really at the top of my travel list. But after spending 1 day in Niagara Falls I was taken back and have to say that I need to eat my words. In the past I had spent lots of time listening to PARTYNEXTDOOR and THEWEEKND, but other than that, it hasn’t always been on my radar.
I mean, I knew about Niagara Falls, but I just wasn’t drawn. However, while I was already heading to the United States in New Jersey for a wedding, I figured… why not? You know, knock two birds with one stone and take a quick trip over the border? I was pleasantly surprised. Canada, you’ve got charm, and I’ll be back.
In this post, I’ll walk you through my day trip to Niagara Falls. You know, as I do on here, how I got there, what it cost in the Niagara Falls Guide. This is all so you can add it to your North American travel list.
Getting to Niagara Falls
I flew into Canada at 6.00 am from New Jersey and was picked up straight from the airport. The flight was pretty quick and smooth. We drove straight to the Niagara Falls. I would say it’s about an hour and a half drive from Toronto Pearson Airport, depending on traffic. Canadians speak a lot about traffic, but I didn’t pick up the vibe because the highways/motorways are huge in comparison to the UK. The full address of the Falls address is: Niagara Falls, NY 14303. Further down you will see a map for hotels to stay around the Niagara falls.
Parking around the Niagara Falls can be a little pricey, considering you won’t be staying the whole day. I paid around 12 Canadian dollars, so keep that in mind if you’re going there by yourself. If you’re not planning to rent a car, you can book a Niagara Falls Day Tour directly from Toronto or other nearby cities from here.
Things to Do Around the Niagara Falls
I was pretty surprised by the lead-up to the Niagara falls. It was like an Arcade outside. I actually thought the Niagara falls were going to be in a deserted area by themselves. I was clearly mistaken, the area actually has a lot of touristy things that can be done, however, I was mainly there for the main attraction, Niagara Falls. But if you have the time, I would highly recommend the following:
- A Boat Tour where you can take a Hornblower cruise up close to the base of the Niagara Falls. It’s one of the most popular things to do.
- Downtown Niagara is literally an Arcade outside, you will find quirky shops, food stalls, and lots of touristy fun.
- Niagara Falls SkyWheel is brilliant for aerial views if you’re into panoramic shots.
- Try Poutine, it’s literally chips/fries, cheese, and gravy. Simple but a Canadian classic.
Where to Stay
I stayed with friends and family, but there are plenty of options close to the Niagara Falls if you’re planning to stay overnight. I would also highly recommend visiting and staying close to the CN Tower in Toronto. You can find lots of accommodation options here. When to Visit
I would highly recommend visiting from June to August, which is when they have their summer. The weather is warmer, the Niagara Falls are roaring, and the area is full of life. However, you can also go from September to October. I went in October, and it was not incredibly cold, which I have often been put off by when it comes to Canada. Oh and you can easily do 1 day in Niagara Falls if you are short on time.

I should also mention that I visited the CN Tower in Toronto. I have a friend who lives directly next door to the tower. You can go right to the rooftop and see it! If you have time, I would definitely visit the CN Tower as it is another major highlight. The views are actually immaculate and not to be missed! The tickets cost around $40 CAD. Final Thoughts on Niagara Falls
Canada really did surprise me. I went in with ABSOLUTELY no expectations whatsoever and left intrigued to see more. Now that I am practising my French and have family there, I’ll definitely be back, especially to explore Quebec and other French-speaking parts of the country (shout out to my Duolingo streak)!
