Introduction
There are so many interesting places in Luxembourg that I saw when I was in Luxembourg this year. And it’s crazy because I literally just booked another trip an decided lets travel to Luxembourg and will be taking a few people with me via my travel company Ayoviama. As I was planning my group trip I thought it would be also cool for me to share some interesting facts about Luxembourg. All of which I learnt when I was there last year.
This post is about my upcoming travel to Luxembourg and the fun facts about Luxembourg that I have found out on my recent trip and my upcoming trip with my travel company Ayoviama.

1. Luxembourg is One of Europe’s Smallest Countries
Despite there being a lot to do in the country of Luxembourg. The country only covers over 2,500 square kilometres, making it one of the smallest countries on the continent of Europe. You can drive from one end to the other in less than two hours.
2. The Capital Has the Same Name as the Country
How many countries have you come across that has the same name for the city as it does for the country? I have done Singapore which has the same name for the city like Luxembourg City is the capital of Luxembourg.
I always find those things quite fascinating when both the country and its capital share the same name, as I imagine it confuses people all the time, but good to remember.
The city itself is also a well known UNESCO World Heritage Site, built dramatically across gorges and rocky promontories that make it one of the most photogenic capitals in Europe.
3. Public Transport is Completely Free
Since 2020, Luxembourg became the first country in the world to make all public transport free for everyone residents and visitors alike. Buses, trams, trains no ticket needed. It’s so unreal you feel like you are constantly skipping the bus and doing something naughty.
Now this is good for anyone that is travelling to Luxembourg a real nice treat to be in. However, after travelling to Luxembourg, I did learn that while it’s free for visitors, the locals do pay and make up for it in taxes.
4. More Michelin Stars Per Capita Than France
For a country with less than than 700,000 people, Luxembourg’s food scene is quietly exceptional. I throughly enjoyed it when I went last year and sure I will enjoy it again when I go next week.
It has more Michelin starred restaurants per capita than France which, given France’s reputation, is a remarkable thing to be able to say. If you love food, Luxembourg will not disappoint I did the food tour via GetYourGuide which you can do the exact same one here.
5. Everyone Speaks Multiple Languages
Luxembourg has three official languages: Luxembourgish, French, and German. Most locals speak all three fluently, and English is widely spoken too. As a solo traveller, I thoroughly enjoyed speaking French when I could (many locals got impatient with me lol). You will have absolutely no trouble getting around or communicating with locals at all.
6. It’s Known as “The Green Heart of Europe”
More than a third of Luxembourg is covered by forest. The Ardennes region in the north is stunning walking and cycling territory, and the Müllerthal Trail often called “Little Switzerland” is one of the most underrated hiking routes in Europe.
7. It’s One of the Safest Countries in the World
As a solo travel, I felt incredibly safe solo travelling as a Black women to Luxembourg. The country is incredibly diverse and is consistently ranked among the safest countries globally.
For solo travellers particularly women travelling to Luxembourg alone is an incredibly reassuring destination. The combination of safety, ease of navigation, and friendly locals makes it an excellent choice if you’re building your solo travel confidence.
BONUS Fun Facts About Luxembourg: Most of the Michelin Star Restaurants are closed on Monday
After travelling to Luxembourg and coming back yesterday I can say that when and if you do a day trip and travel to Luxembourg you should also know that although it has a number of Michelin Star Restaurants they are all closed on Monday. Or at least I noticed most of them where closed on Monday.
